I went to bed with Pooh last night and slept all night 11-8am as this was the first night without being disturbed for feed at 2am and no beeps in the night, I wonder if this is a record?
I woke myself with a cry and have been waking myself with cries for nappy changes like a normal baby all day that’s more things to confuse Mummy and Daddy as I normally only cry when I hurt or before a fit.
When Mummy came she gave me a nice wash and dressed me as per my timetable, which steadily went out of the window for most of the day as I slept through, massage time, cuddle time, sensory time and bath-time.
Nurse Ruth, who’s husband likes Toblerones, peered over me this morning, I thought she was saying hello but cheeky thing she dropped wet blobs in my eyes, I’ve had this done before, these are eye drops help the eye doctor see into my eyes.
A little later we were going on an external expedition as Mummy called it, we were leaving the ward! It was like a special mission, I had an‘old skool’ pram as Daddy would say, which Andrea Polkadots added some special modifications, including two portable Oxygen cylinders. One was for my low flow and an emergency one for the resuscitation mask, there was also a suction machine and my monitor. Andrea and one of the Junior Doctors accompanied Me, Mummy and Daddy all the way through the hospital corridors to the eye clinic.
I’m very lucky that Mummy didn’t throw up in my cot or faint in the corridor as she seemed very pale and shaky all the time we were out. The corridor is not an unfamiliar place to me in general as I have been escorted along its icy passageway on several occasions but had forgotten what it felt like to move.
To see the ceiling lights whizzing above my head and the gentle rumble of the rubber tyres over the squeaky lino floor made me pretty sleepy to be honest. By the time Mr Walker was poking about with a torch and wearing his funny head band I was dreaming nicely. It freaked me out a bit to open my eyes later as my pupils were really dilated and I couldn’t see properly, Mummy was telling someone that Mr Walker says my eyes look to be normal so if I am struggling to see things its to do with messages from my brain mixing things up.
Mummy is keen that I get to see things a bit more close up so when one of the pink ladies Helen was here, she bribed her with chocolate to make some black and white and squirley danglers for me to look at, I haven’t had chance yet as I have been asleep for much of the day. This worries Mummy as she thinks I shall be up all night.
Advent Calender Maureen brought some items for our raffle and is chasing up my new ear mould, Mummy asked her what kind of noises would be fun for me to listen to, so she is going to bring in some musical instruments on Friday as I now have a tab for my timetable for’ music time’ and she’s keen to get in on the board.
I had a nice visit from Lucas’s Mummy, Lyndsey today, Mummy sucked in her belly in when she saw her because Lyndsey only had Lucas one month before Mummy had me and she looked amazing! She brought green soup freshly cooked from Darren, Mummy and Daddy were very excited apparently they like green soup. While Lyndsey was here a very special lady came to see me, she has big letters after her name she is the CEO for the Hospital. I am now seeing VIP’s. She was interested to meet me as she has heard so much about me and wanted to thank us for fundraising. We felt very honoured, we are hoping to get more donations soon with everyone else’s help.
Another VIP turned up after that, my Grandad, he said he was very weary on his feet and sat in the cuddle chair but I was far too sleepy for cuddles. I only woke up for a poo (“Charming” he said) then went back to sleep but I spotted him there watching me and I felt his bristly kiss goodbye.
Finally friend Becca’s daddy Ben came to see us, bringing auction prizes and some food. Poor Becca! She is back in hospital in Oswestry having another yucky operation for her hips, Ben showed Mummy a picture of her in her hospital cot like me and she has grown so much since I last saw her, she is so pretty and I have missed her lots. Sending you big brave girl kisses from me Becca. Xxxxx I think Mummy has missed nattering to her Mummy, Amy, She misses nattering to a lot of her other Mummy friends too, but mostly she just misses being a normal Mummy, even so, she’s still a brilliant Mummy. (Even if I do say so myself)
Today I will mostly be sleeping |
(Crewe Chronicle went to press at 12pm today, lets hope they are nice to us and help spread the fundraising word…)
Hello Ellie - I've just read your story in the Chronicle - front page, what an honour! You look beautiful in your pretty blouse. Your story made my eyes leak a bit! You're such a brave little girl and you and your Mummy and Daddy are such an inspiration to me and so many others. Love to you all, Nicola xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Ellie,
ReplyDeleteI just had a look at the Crewe Chronicle website as I don't know if I can buy it where I live. It was very naughty of me because I should be working, but I couldn't wait. It's a great article and a lovely photo of you (not that you would ever take a bad photo of course!). Big mistake though, I've got leaky eyes now too - think I'll go and hide in the kitchen and make a cup of tea ......
Hi Ellie,I to have just read your story on the Crewe Chronicle website as I know I can't buy it where I live! It's a beautiful story and I've also got leaky eyes, must be a kind of virus!! You're such a brave little girl, I hope you have a lot more 'nice days' like Tuesday, even if you did miss half your activities. Sleep makes you strong too. Lots of love and GOOD LUCK with the Fund Raising.
